By Ellen Brown Several writers have noted the odd fact that the Libyan rebels took time out from their rebellion in March to create their own central bank – this before they even had a government. Robert Wenzel wrote in the Economic Policy Journal: I have never before heard of a central bank being created in just a matter of weeks out of a popular uprising. This suggests we have a bit more than a rag tag bunch of rebels running around and that there are some pretty sophisticated influences. Alex Newman wrote in the New American: In a statement released last week, the rebels ……. [Full Post]
Bosnia-Libya. 1992-2011 bis repetita
Analysis and observations of the unfolding, Western-orchestrated disaster that is Libya From ‘Vinyard of the Saker‘ blog – 13 April 2011 To my absolute dismay, what is happening with Libya is a complete remake of what happened in Bosnia. A quasi-instantaneous armed insurrection, followed by a civil war, followed by a no-fly zone, followed by a peace plan accepted by the “bad guys” and rejected by the “good guys” and now, it appears, followed by the very same Europeans seriously considering sending in “peacekeeping” troops. They even (re-)created a NATO kangaroo court to judge Gaddafi for his “crimes against humanity” and the rest of the ……. [Full Post]
The BRICS nations say ‘no’ to Libya violence
Nil NIKANDROV | 12.04.2011 | 00:09 Foreign ministries of the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) are busy arranging their agendas ahead of the third BRICS summit in Chinese Sanya on April, 14th. Global events are developing at such a high pace that plans are being corrected on the go. Commenting on the summit, China’s Foreign Ministry said that the participants will exchange views on most pressing issues of economic development and plans for future cooperation. International problems are also said to be on the agenda. The summit will be taking place amid NATO-led bombing in Libya, not allowing the BRICS nations ……. [Full Post]
David Cameron’s Gift of War and Racism, to Them and Us by John Pilger The Euro-American attack on Libya has nothing to do with protecting anyone; only the terminally naive believe such nonsense. It is the West’s response to popular uprisings in strategic, resource-rich regions of the world and the beginning of a war of attrition against the new imperial rival, China. President Barack Obama’s historical distinction is now guaranteed. He is America’s first black president to invade Africa. His assault on Libya is run by the US Africa Command, which was set up in 2007 to secure the continent’s lucrative natural resources from Africa’s ……. [Full Post]
Libyan waiting game favors Gaddafi
By Victor Kotsev TEL AVIV – The Western “military option” in Libya has turned into a military fashion show of questionable merit. In order to believe this, we need not take the word of American and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) defense officials – many of whom, such as Pentagon chief Robert Gates and NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen, have been singing the “there is no military solution” refrain practically since the beginning of the intervention. Nor do we really need to believe the analysts who have sought to explain what the show is really about. It is enough to look at all the “covert” ……. [Full Post]
What Is Behind The Libyan Defections?
by Gregory Elich Much has been made of the defection of several Libyan officials to the West. We are told that the Muammar Qaddafi is losing support even within his inner circle, and the defections underscore the success of the NATO mission. The Libyan government’s days are numbered, it is averred. The latest defections, by Libyan foreign minister and former intelligence chief Moussa Koussa, and Libyan UN representative Ali Abdessalam Treki, may not have been quite as spontaneous as Western officials would have us to think. “I don’t believe that [Koussa] necessarily decided on his own,” observes former CIA officer Emile Nakleh. “I judge that ……. Leftists, Activists and all that Bloody Jazz…
By Layla Anwar An Arab Woman Blues, April 2, 2011 I really should stop reading other people’s tweets and I should quit Twitter altogether…alternatively I should just talk to myself and pay zero attention to what others are talking about, because 9 times out of 10 they are talking from their asses. The latest in line of pure bullshit coming from so-called liberals, lefties and activists for “human rights and social/political justice” is the abysmal stand on Libya. Truly disgraceful, shocking, flabbergasting…you name it they are guilty of it… I observe people’s reactions on the famous social media that has led so called “Spring Revolutions” ……. [Full Post]
Did any of those starry-eyed ‘Humanitarian Interventionists’ NOT expect this? Seriously? Expect a lot more where this came from. It’s called ‘protecting the civilian population’ – NATO style. New York Daily News March 31, 2011 40 civilians reportedly killed in NATO air strikes on Tripoli; Defense Secretary to address congress BY Lukas I. Alpert At least 40 civilians have been killed in NATO air strikes on Tripoli, the Vatican’s top envoy to Libya said Thursday. “They are killing dozens of civilians,” said Bishop Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli. “In the Tajoura neighborhood, around 40 civilians were killed, and a house with a family inside collapsed.” “In the ……. The U.N. Security Council imposed an arms embargo on Libya on Feb. 26 along with travel bans and asset freezes for Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and members of his family and inner circle. [ID:nN26176835]. The following pictures were taken in and around rebel held Benghazi during the two week period prior to the start of military action by France and the UK on 19 March 2011. They are a pretty clear indication that, prior to the outbreak of hostilities, the rebels had access to some brand new weaponry of standard NATO issue. A CIA commander for the Libyan rebels
By Patrick Martin 28 March 2011 The Libyan National Council, the Benghazi-based group that speaks for the rebel forces fighting the Gaddafi regime, has appointed a long-time CIA collaborator to head its military operations. The selection of Khalifa Hifter, a former colonel in the Libyan army, was reported by McClatchy Newspapers Thursday and the new military chief was interviewed by a correspondent for ABC News on Sunday night. Hifter’s arrival in Benghazi was first reported by Al Jazeera on March 14, followed by a flattering portrait in the virulently pro-war British tabloid the Daily Mail on March 19. The Daily Mail described Hifter as one ……. [Full Post]
